If You’Re Comfortable You Must Be Dead
What! Aren’t we all working, and struggling and saving, and planning so that one day, hopefully in the near future and surely by the time we retire, we will be comfortable? Well, maybe not. What is that quote? “Be careful what you ask for….” When you are comfortable you are probably dead.
What is Comfortable? Webster’s dictionary defines comfortable as “affording or enjoying contentment and security.” There are aspects of our lives in which we seek comfort; a comfortable income, comfortable shoes, etc. That sounds good. However, the perception of it is what makes the difference. Lil Wayne sings a song titled Comfortable “My love for you is real, if you don’t love me somebody else will, so baby don’t you ever get too comfortable….” Indicating that taking someone or something for grated will cause you to lose them or it.
I Thought it was a Good Thing. Should we not be comfortable in our own skin? Yes, of course. It is very important to be happy with yourself and where you are right NOW. Webster goes on to say “comfortable applies to anything that encourages serenity, well-being, or complacency as well as physical ease.” Should we be comfortable in our business, our life? Not to the point that you have become complacent and think that you have “arrived.”
Why Should I be Uncomfortable? In order to grow, stay healthy, just continue to improve in all areas of your life. Most of the time that means you have to be uncomfortable with where you are so you will strive to improve, move forward, or build your business. In the lyrics by John Mayer, “our love was comfortable and broken in…,” but they are not together any more. They had stopped working at it.
So What do Entrepreneurs have to Say About This? As a business man or woman, whether you work from home, have a small business, or still on the job, your personal development is key to living the lifestyle you deserve. Ok, so what is personal development? Personal development and growth refers to your emotional, professional, psychological, physical and spiritual health. Continue honing your skills, continuing your education, building on your experience. Entrepreneurs are fully aware of how critical it is to stay on top of current trends and changes in your industry.
You know that yourself. Have you been exercising and eating “right” and now you are finally at the weight you wanted, you are looking good, feeling healthy. Tell me what happens if you get comfortable. Here comes the weight and the increase in blood pressure. So why do you think getting comfortable is different in any other area of your life.
Ok, I Get It. So being “un” comfortable is not a bad thing. Actually, it motivates you, it keeps you alive, vibrant, and youthful . Change your mindset to perceive it as a positive thing. Be comfortable being uncomfortable. You can be comfortable when you’re dead.
