Create a Resume That Comes Alive

More often than not, resumes are your first introduction to an organization - giving them the responsibility of persuading the reader to want more. It is common for individuals to agonize over writing a resume and more often than not the finished product looks more like a career obituary or personal statement than a first class ticket to your dream job. A resume is an advert, an advert that introduces an individual, their career achievements to date and predicts how they will perform in their next role.

With only one resume out of every 200 leading to an interview, it is important to ensure that yours is the one that gets noticed. There are a number of key tips to writing a resume that will come alive in the readers' hand, read on to find out more.

Step 1 - Research

Before starting to write your resume you need to do some preliminary research so you can tailor it to the jobs that you wish to apply for. Writing a broad resume can exclude you from specific positions that you apply for.

o What do I want to do? Research job specifications, websites, industry press.

o What makes me the best candidate for any job? Research job specifications, websites and industry press to discover the types of candidate's organizations are looking for. Use this research and speak to people within the industry to draw up a list of your skills, characteristics and experience that makes you the best candidate for any job.

o Select the jobs that you would like to apply for

Step 2 - Write your primary job objective (this gives the reader incentive to read on)

An XX position in an organization where YY and ZZ would be required.

Step 3 - Write your summary

Using the research and brainstorming create a summary that articulately matches your skills and experience to the job requirements.

o A short phrase describing your profession
o A statement of broad or specialized expertise
o Use 2/3 additional statements
o Breadth & depth of skills
o Unique mix of skills
o Special or well documented accomplishment
o Awards, promotions or superior performance
o 1 or 2 professional or appropriate personal characteristics
o Add in the sentence you created in Step 2

E.g. Solution focused and driven human resources executive with eight years experience in strategic management and large scale recruitment projects. The national lead for retention policies within a large healthcare provider that has lead to a 15% reduction in turnover among nurses nationwide. Seeking a senior HR management role that offers extensive project work.

Step 4 Resume Format

Now you have your job objective and summary, choose what format of resume best suits your type of job search. There are 3 main types of resumes:

Chronological - This is the most common. It is a chronological listing of your work experience with the most recent first. It is best for:

o People who have practical work experience without long periods of unemployment and minimal job / industry changes.

o Individuals who have shown growth within a single professions

Functional - This resume format focuses on skills, credentials and accomplishments. It highlights what the strengths are rather than when / where they were developed. The main formatting difference is that after the job summary / objective you list your professional or business skills and successes, followed by a list of the positions held. It is best for individuals who:

o Have lots of job experience and many jobs
o Are just entering the work force with no / little track record
o Are just pre-retirement and have lots of work experience
o Are returning after a period of absence (return after maternity/paternity leave or long term sickness)
o Are changing careers / do not have consistent career growth
o Are Military personnel seeking civilian jobs

Combination - This resume format is a combination of the chronological and functional types. It is best for individuals who:

o Are advancing in the prospective careers and have an established track record they want to keep.

Step 5 Success Stories

Whatever format you choose you still want to include between 2-5 professional success stories for each role you have had. A useful method to help you create a strong resume is the mnemonic is CARS. For each job held think of Challenges you faced, Actions you took, Results or outcomes and finally Skills / Strengths that this showed you have. Using this story to create a sentence that speaks to how successful you were at your previous role. Remember to refer back to the words used and requirements detailed in the job description and use them where necessary so your resume is tailored to the hiring manager's specific requirements.

E.g.

C - We needed to recruit 10 nurses before the opening of a new hospital ward in 4 wks time

A - Worked with team to create a shorter recruitment turnaround time, created a Team Leader specific to the project and negotiated the buy in of senior managers to sign off new recruits.

R - Recruited and trained all 10 within the 3 weeks, reducing the predicted $500k agency spend.

S - Negotiation, team leadership, meet deadlines, motivation, intuition and creative problem solving.

Resume - Successfully managed a team that recruited 10 nurses, expedited their training and start date in order to meet a 1 month deadline, saving the hospital a predicted $500k in agency spend.

Step 6 Education & Publications

Enter in reverse chronological order after your work experience and accomplishments.

The only time you put education directly under the summary would be:

o Recently graduated

When God created the world, he made man and woman. In them, there was seed to fill the earth. God could have made all the people he needed to fill the earth but this would have gone contrary to who he is. He put a seed in every plant and animal as a way of giving them power to rule there destiny. God told man, be fruitful, multiply and fill the earth. This meant that man had all the power he needed to rule over the earth. He was not to go back to God to ask for more power of favor. It was already in him.

As we are born, we already have the seeds we have to make it in life. These come in many forms. They can be talents, gifts, money and family traits. Everything you need is already in you. The money, prosperity, ministry and family you have always desired, you already have them in your spirit. All that you need to do is learn how to release these blessings from God and let them manifest in your physical life. Everything you carry in your spirit is a seed that is supposed to usher you in to the destiny God has prepared for you.

If you desire something, seed and harvest time in the Kingdom of God require that you release that which God has already given you. Do you desire to have money, sow monetary seeds, Do you desire to be an intercessor, sow those prayers that are already in your heart. God always gives you seeds to take you to where he wants you to go. What you do with the seed is what will determine where you land in your purpose and how fast you get there. Learn to sow sacrificially as this will ensure that you always are walking according to how God has ordered your life.

The 6 Qualities Of A Good Mlm Leader

Good Leadership qualities are important for success in both online and offline network marketing. Multi-Level Marketing after all is basically about creating a team of distributors and guiding each member of the team on ways to succeed. 

To the extent that you are able to project yourself as a leader before your downline or prospects, to that same extent your network business will thrive.  And vice versa.

A good leader is one who is able to teach and motivate others on how to practice success principles. In other words, he teaches subordinates how to benefit themselves. A leader is one whose personal example has won the trust and admiration of team members.

They see him or her as an authority in the business both because of his achievements and because of his useful ideas. Let's now look at some of the most important qualities an MLM leader needs to display:

You Must Show Fellow Feeling: you must care how your downline members are doing in their business. You must identify with their feelings and show them how to handle frustrating situations that often arise in the business.

This is very important. Most new members would quit the moment it appears that you're only using them to achieve your own goals. If you wholeheartedly direct and guide them on the path to success, they won't care how much you're making. They'll see you as a partner in progress.

You Must Have Credible Results: you'll be seen as a leader if you practice what you teach, AND if these teachings are producing observable results for you. In MLM more than in any other business, the phrase "if I can see it I can believe it" is the norm. People follow leaders whose methods are proven to work, as is exemplified in the life of the leader.

Really, you can only promise success to others if you've achieved or are achieving it yourself. You can't give what you don't have. Most prospects often feel like "what do you know about success when you don't even have it?"

A Good Leader Must Add Value: what value are you adding to the life or business of your downline distributors? Leadership in network marketing is all about people following someone who shows them how to do things better-how to be better at marketing, how to use certain online tools to prospect (say YouTube or twitter), how to generate free leads, how to convert leads to customers. Anything that helps team members or prospects on how to achieve the success they want to achieve with their business.

A Good Leader Must Keep Learning: you must continue to develop yourself and grow as a leader. Invest in yourself so that you'll always have value to add to others who are following you.

You might have learnt about attraction marketing as an effective way to get online leads. Tell your prospects or members of your list exactly how they can implement the strategies of attraction marketing. Stay on top of things, and let your followers hear most tips on how to build their business first from you.

Be Unique: let there be a few things about you that your followers can't quite get from another marketer. It could be the way you know and call everyone by their name. It could also be in the way you go beyond the call of duty to be of help when requested. Maybe it's in the way you follow up on issues to ensure they're resolved.

You Must Stay In Charge: do not shirk your responsibilities as a leader. A leader is one who makes decisions and follows this up with appropriate actions. This could be challenging at times. 

But there's no room for second thoughts once you've decided on something. Also, accept responsibility for the outcome of any actions you recommend-good or bad. You're not supposed to be perfect.

But you must be seen to be truthful and honest. Remember too that you can't do everything yourself. Sometimes as a leader you may need to delegate a trusted hand to take charge of some things pertaining to team members. But you must always keep an eye on how things are turning out.

Leadership is probably the single most important quality for building a thriving network marketing business. Therefore your efforts to improve in this aspect of your MLM business will bring rich rewards.  This is important  for you to remember: Your Bad before Your Good and you are Good before you are GREAT!
